Changing Our Community...Changing the World

MISSIONS AND SERVICE AT GBUMC

At Great Bridge UMC, we believe that loving God and loving our neighbors are inseparable! We support people in our community, and people in places like West Virginia and El Salvador because we believe that part of loving our neighbors is helping them meet their needs, whether that means fixing someone’s roof, helping a family to eat, or treating hurting people with dignity.

MISSION TRIPS TO IAEGER, WEST VA & EL SALVADOR

Every year, we travel to Iaeger West Virginia and El Salvador to participate in building projects. Iaeger is one of the poorest areas in the United States, and we try to serve people living there through completion of home improvement projects and by helping a local non-profit manage donations. In El Salvador, we work closely with faith leaders in the community and other people from the area to complete building projects, including churches and schools. All mission trips are planned by experienced leaders in the church to ensure that the trips function smoothly. All work sites are closely supervised, and proper instruction is always provided to ensure safe usage of tools. FAITH WORKS COALITION

Faith Works Coalition serves the Chesapeake and Virginia Beach area by helping people in need insure their homes are safe, warm, and dry. Every Saturday, people from our church and others in the area gather together to repair damage to the homes of people in our community. Whether it’s repairing a roof, putting in a wheel-chair ramp, or fixing beaten up walls, you can be a part of making someone’s life better by working with Faith Works! All work sites are supervised, and proper instruction is always provided as necessary. NEST & CAST

Twice a year, we provide housing and meals for people experiencing homelessness from the Norfolk Emergency Shelter Team (NEST) and the Chesapeake Area Shelter Team (CAST).  As a church, we work to ensure that our guests can have a safe and comfortable place to sleep, good food to eat, and are treated with dignity for the week they spend with us.  Want to participate?

ANGEL TREE

Nobody wants to think of kids at Christmas without presents. That’s why during advent season every year, we collect and deliver gifts to children who have incarcerated parents. Our goal is to ensure that kids who might be sad come Christmas time have something to smile about! Want to participate?

AUTUMN CARE BINGO

If you were in a nursing home, would you want to be left alone, or would you want someone to spend time with you? Our church tries to show love to the residents of Autumn Care Nursing Home by playing bingo with them once a month. Through programs like this, we can help ensure that the people living at Autumn Care are not forgotten about, and can spend some time with friendly faces. Want to participate?
